Georgia Primary Care Association (GPCA)

Since 1977, Georgia Primary Care Association (GPCA) has represented Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) throughout the state by providing training, technical assistance along with developing and implementing strategies to expand and strengthen our health care safety net system. In addition, GPCA supports several programs and services which enhances our FQHC health care delivery system.

In 1977, GPCA started with 6 initial FQHC members and 10 clinic sites. Today, our membership has expanded to 35 FQHCs comprising of 225 clinic sites covering 123 counties throughout Georgia. GPCA is quite familiar and knowledgeable about the relevant rules and regulations governing FQHC – Section 330 organizations. GPCA is very active in the development of various operational models for FQHC organizations. GPCA provides direction and leadership for required community development activities that are related to both the development of new start FQHC organizations and operations of existing FQHC organizations.

In 1977, GPCA started with 6 initial FQHC members and 10 clinic sites. In 2000, our membership grew to 17 FQHCs with 75 clinic sites. Today, our membership has expanded to 35 FQHCs comprising of 225 clinic sites covering 123 counties throughout Georgia. This represents a growth of 100% in the number of health center organizations and an increase of nearly 200% in the number of clinic sites over the past 18 years. In 2018, our FQHCs serve nearly 600,000 individuals in underserved communities which accounts for 1 in 12 uninsured Georgians.

Our FQHC workforce consists of over 500 physicians and mid-level practitioners along with over 2,700 other support staff. FQHCs have helped to stimulate Georgia’s local economy by creating over 6,000 jobs both directly and indirectly. GPCA continues to strive for improving the well-being of underserved communities by advocating for the expansion and sustained high-quality healthcare of its membership of FQHCs.
