History of Morris Heights Health Center

Morris Heights Health Center (MHHC) has a record of distinction as the major provider of primary health care to Morris Heights and surrounding areas since it opened in 1981. It is the outgrowth of a grassroots community response to medical abandonment of the area. Founded by the Morris Heights Neighborhood Improvement Association with a small federal grant, MHHC has grown to meet the continuing needs of the community. The Women’s Health & Birthing Pavilion has provided a safe, cost-effective, homelike birthing experience for several thousand women. Morris Heights Health Center Today

Morris Heights Health Center continues to be an organization in transition. MHHC’s people, processes and systems have been asked to adapt to meet the anticipated changes in health care delivery. We are focused on improving the technology infrastructure through full integration of our patient management system and transforming the organization into one that is data knowledgeable and data-driven.

In our pursuit of excellence, we intend to expand our peer community beyond the Bronx and even New York, to be measured and recognized as one of the best health care providers in the country. The theoretical framework is to create a comprehensive medical home, with certified centers of excellence, as a physician directed team with a focus on care coordination and integrated quality as patients are continually seeking higher quality care and marketplace demands are being felt in this competitive healthcare market.

MHHC is continually changing to meet the growing needs of our community.
