Arbor Family Health, formerly Innis Community Health Center, was founded in 2001, to provide primary healthcare services to the area communities in need of preventive and affordable health care, in a prudent & efficient manner with a caring attitude regardless of the ability to pay. Innis is located in a rural area in southeast Louisiana, where there was limited access to care. The need was great, and the geographic and financial barriers to care were steep. Residents of some area census tracts had to travel more than 50 miles for primary health care services and there was a shortage of providers who would accept the uninsured. Beginning in 1999 an initial Board of Directors with the vision of community based health care worked to develop the center as a resource for the underserved community.
The Arbor Family Health Board of Directors, comprised of a cross section of community members who gave faithfully of their time and talent to lead the health center, has been crucial to the success of the center. The passion for the health center’s mission is demonstrated by the Board, executive Leadership and staff.
A designated federally qualified health center, Arbor Family Health now provides more than 10,000 medical and dental encounters annually to the community, including the uninsured and under insured population.
